I am the coolest girl ever! Janet and I decided, since the Sudden Silence CD turned out so good, that AJ needed it. Pittsburgh to Hartford is only, oh, 12 hours. So we called in sick and off we went.
We went straight to their hotel, of course. Totally tanked up on caffeine and listening to BSB for 12 hours.
Our timing could not have been better. Five minutes after we joined the throngs outside the hotel, AJ and Nick and Frank walked up. Dunno where they were. Someone said shopping.
And they STOPPED! This was so meant to be. We wiggled our way up as they were signing things, and Janet handed AJ the CD. He tried to sign it, then realized it wasn't BSB and looked up at her.
This is where she tells me that she lost her mind. Because Alex James fucking McClain was looking right at her. "What's this?" he asked.
"Its your friend's band. Sudden Silence?" she managed to say, and Nick's little blond head just whipped around.
I so want to know what's going on there. Nick seems *really* interested in AJ's girl…
AJ took the CD, looking really interested. "My friend, huh? How do you know Sudden Silence?"
Janet couldn't talk any more, so I stepped up. I don't know how I managed to say anything, because Nick was staring at me. "We have our ways. They did 'Get Another Boyfriend' the other night in Pittsburgh, and we taped the show."
And AJ and Nick exchanged the funniest look. Like they were completely and totally shocked. Guess she hadn't told AJ. Nick reached for the CD and AJ pulled it out of his way, moving closer to Janet. "Thanks. Really, this is awesome. What do you want me to sign?"
He signed her TV Guide cover with a big "Janet, you rock" and then Frank made them go inside.

About this Rachel girl. All I can say is if both Nick and AJ have designs on her, where the hell do I sign up for her job? Can you imagine?

Fwiw, I've seen AJ with Sarah and think they're genuinely happy. I know that's not a very popular opinion, but there it is. Doesn't make me love the guy less (or quit trying to turn his head at every show *I'm* at… !), but I just don't buy this Rachel/AJ thing. Guy's smarter than that. And isn't Sarah with him now? I mean, would he really be all excited about getting her CD in front of the girlfriend? Is AJ that dumb?

We did manage to tear ourselves away from the connecting wall long enough to pee and get something to eat occasionally. J/K. (okay, maybe not… *grin*)
Anyway, last night Nick was on the phone until something like 3am. We finally fell asleep. I don't know how he stayed awake. Anyway, we heard him on the phone and he was laughing and being all flirty. He had to be talking to some girl. I just know it. It had to be her because from everything I've heard, that's all he's listening to lately. Howie even mentioned it to someone at the Meet and Greet last night.
Okay, back to stalking the hotels…

Yes, Howie… we were at the Meet and Greet and someone was talking to Howie about what he's listening to and he mentioned Sudden Silence (what is the woman putting in the boys' water… I want a bit of that aphrodesiac!) and then said, 'but not as much as Nicky.' Nick just smirked at him and said something like, 'you so didn't know her before, you are such a liar.'
Don't know what was up with that.

Sudden Silence is in NYC all week. How lame is it that their website doesn't list the venues. Don't know what's up with that. And they aren't indexed on Ticketmaster either. Maybe this Rachel chick can ask the boys for some career advice, huh?

So the Today Show thing is over and even though my friends and I had been standing out there since 4am, we decide to try and follow one of them. ANY of them. After the taping we hung around by the buses. We see Brian and Howie go out to their buses and leave. Damn. This is NYC, doesn't anyone take taxi's? We can follow them in the city with a taxi!
We waited like for-ever (at least 20 minutes!) and Nick comes barreling out of the backstage door. We were just dumbfounded. At first there wasn't even a Frank. Just Nick. He kinda smiled at us (there were maybe 50 of us and we all just stood there staring at him like we couldn't believe it was actually him!) and went to the curb like he was gonna hail a cab. Then he looked back at the stage door and kinda sighed. Like he was waiting for Frank.
Sure enough, 20 seconds later Frank comes running out behind him. They started bickering (anyone think Nick and Frank need a vacation from one another? All they do is fight anymore… it's kinda sad!) and finally a cab pulls up. We were just standing there quietly as all these girls (they have regained their senses now) were taking pictures and shouting for Nick. Nick gets in and yells to the driver - "the pancakes place!" - and Frank just shook his head and then gave the driver the address. I wasn't sure what he said, but since I'm from NYC, I know this really really cool pancake house. Has the biggest pancakes you've ever seen and it's a totally resident New Yorker kinda place to go - rarely any tourist. Anyway, it's a totally Rachel kind of place. So we hop into two cabs and head there on a whim.
AND WE WERE RIGHT!
We get there like 10 minutes after them. Damned traffic! They are already inside and damn if we don't look inside the windows (the whole front is windows, kinda hard not to watch!) and Frank turns around in his chair and shoots us a trademarked 'Frank death glare.'
So we don't go in.

But we didn't leave. They were there for about an hour and we tried to watch without being booted off the premises (yeah, yeah, public sidewalk… tell that to the police the next time you're loitering around spying on a Backstreet Boy!). At one point my friend Tina swears that Nick handed Rachel a CD - I'm guessing it was yours ThorIsGod.
Btw, Nick looked odd the whole time. He was kinda slumped over in his seat and I could tell that Rachel kept trying to make him smile. God, she's pretty. Sorry, girls but she is. She's smaller than I imagined her, bet she only comes up to his chest and she's got this amazing brown curly hair that she kept trying to keep out of her eyes but it didn't work. She laughs a lot, too, which is so cool. She's not stoic and serious like some of the girlfriends/wives. (NOT pointing fingers!!!)
Damn this is getting long! Sorry. LOL!
Anyway, when they finally come out, we are all there. About six of us. And Frank gives us another death glare for good measure but NICK STOPS! He signs things and we take pictures, it is so f***king cool! He stood there with us for like 10 minutes. Tina had the best interaction with him, though, and I'll let her tell it.

Well, Dawnie (NickIsGod) told you most of our story, but I had the coolest interaction with Nick and Rachel. After Nick had put his arm around me for the picture and then SMILED AT ME, I kinda backed away and walked *straight into Rachel* who was just standing to the side of all of us and watching. I was so flustered I don't think I could have even told you my name! LOL!
Anyway, she was so nice. She patted my arm and - this is go funny guys - she said "He's just a guy in an ugly shirt!" She totally was goofing on him! He heard and whined over at us that he liked his shirt and she said something like "that's an ugly shirt and everyone on the boards thinks so."
EVERYONE ON THE BOARDS!!!!!!!!!!
I soooo know she was talking about us, guys. Who else busts on Nick's clothes? And that fugly orange thing has been our main topic of conversation since Indiana!!! Yes, it was back again.
But I couldn't even agree with her. SORRY! She asked what I thought and I was just mesmerized by the rays of light emanating from his head and I mumbled, "it looks good on him."
God damnit!
My chance to tell Nick he should NEVER wear that fugly thing again and what do I do? I blow it. *kicks self*
Rachel just laughed and he smiled at me.

Is that possible? I don't really know what she looks like, but there were about 10 of us outside the Philly hotel tonight, and Nick came out real quick, and told us he'd be right back, then disappeared around the back of the hotel. He looked sorta tired and annoyed, but I don't think they really got any sleep last night, the Today show films so fricking early.
Just then, this cute little silver convertible pulls up and in it is a girl with curly brown hair, a tall blond guy and another girl with *purple* hair. The brown haired girl looked all pissed off, but the purple haired girl led her around back.
The ten of us couldn't figure out if they were Backstreet people or not, so we all just stood there like *idiots*, because Nick came back with Frank like five minutes later and now he was all smiles. He was totally nice, signed things, smiled for pictures, was all cool.
Had to be Rachel, right?
Nick and Frank went into the hotel, but then came out and got into a cab like ten minutes later, and I was so overwhelmed by the boy's beauty that it was only then that I noticed that the silver convertible was gone. Maybe they went somewhere together?

Alright, we're goons, but I couldn't help myself! The power of his loveliness was too strong!
We were across the street from the hotel in the park when he came out, and when Rachel and co. drove up, I looked over at Lisa and said 'we need the car. There will be Backstreet movement.'
We fucked it all up, tho, and by the time we got back to the hotel, Rachel's car was gone and so was Nick. But we're both from Philly, and if was gonna show someone Philly, I'd start with a cheese steak.
Damn if we didn't hit it in one! We found Nick and Rachel and Frank and James (in her band) and the mysterious purple haired girl at one of the South Philly cheese steak places. They were all leaning on her car, looking completely normal, talking and eating. We just sat in our car and watched them, until they all got back in the car- Nick sat in the back between the two girls- and took off.
We stayed a respectable distance behind them, don't worry! Good thing, because they spent the next 90 minutes driving around the city. Took us a while to figure out that they were taking a tour- I think the purple haired girl must be from here, she kept pointing at things and leaning up to talk to Frank and stuff. She knew all the good stuff, too, not just the Liberty Bell and crap, she took them past some of the cool murals and sculptures, and took them inside the train station- the architecture in there is totally awesome.
It looked like they enjoyed it, Nick kept laughing and leaning out of the car to see things better.
Then they ended up at one of my favorite bars! We took a table in the corner and tried to avoid Frank's death glare. It's a public place! Nick and Rachel went to play the jukebox and were totally flirting. When they went back to the bar, they all started talking about Duran Duran and tattoos. James has a cool one that he was showing off, but we couldn't see what it said. We couldn't hear much of what they were talking about, because it was loud, but they closed the place down.
We followed them outside, and Frank tried to chase us away, but Nick- who was TOTALLY TRASHED- stopped him and signed some autographs. I asked him if that was Rachel and James from Sudden Silence, and she squealed and came over to us, all excited that someone recognized them.
Funny, isn't it, Nick spends his life not wanting to be recognized and Rachel was all cute about it?
She asked if I bought the Sudden Silence album just because Nick said it was good, and I tried to be cool- I did buy it just because Nick liked it, but I honestly think its awesome- but James laughed and said he'd take the 20 cents in royalties however it came.
Then Frank hustled everyone away and glared at us until they were out of sight.
So we hustled over to the hotel- it wasn't far, but no one had seen them. We knew they had to be coming back- it was two am, and there's nothing open in Philly later than that.
Lo and behold, 20 minutes later we hear SINGING! It was NICK! Drawn by the power of his song- which was Elton John's Your Song, dunno why!- we tried to find them and ran smack into Frank. Who told us, literally, to fuck off. "Fuck off and go to bed, little girls," he told us.
Frank is totally scary. He's like 7 feet tall. We ran back to the hotel, and 10 minutes later, Nick and Frank came back, alone.
Alone. Really. Unless they smuggled Rachel in by a side door, Nicky slept alone last night. He didn't look too happy about it, either.
