Oreos for Breakfast - The CDs
First we gave you an explanation of the music in the story... so here's the companion piece: the music we write to and use as inspiration.
Cake for Breakfast - Volume 1
The first CD we made with songs mentioned in this story we had just started writing, which we were actually calling "Cake for Breakfast." After we wrote the vending machine breakfast of Oreos scene, we ended up changing that title and Oreos was born! (D'ya think we'll owe Nabisco royalties at some point?). Anyway, we actually wrote quite a bit of the story before we started putting it into chapter form and sharing it with anyone, so this list is really those songs that moved us from one point of the story to the other.

Oreos for Breakfast / Sudden Silence - Volume 2 (with bonus track)
Listen to this CD and you have basically every song that inspired the first part of Oreos for Breakfast and fueled our writing and helped shape the characters you now know and the band, Sudden Silence. Most of our inspiration came, as you can see, from That Dog and the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack, with our favorite BSB songs thrown in for good measure!

Oreos for Breakfast - Volume 3
I think this CD was probably compiled when we were writing early Nick and Rachel, mostly likely the bit in the story where they meet up in Philadelphia. So these are songs that sort of inspired their characters during that period of just getting to know one another.
We've always imagined "Flavor of the Week" from Jeremy's perspective, watching Rachel falling in love with Nick. Nick, of course is the "Nintendo" boyfriend and Damon is "too stoned."
Poe's album, Haunted, is really amazing. Most of her songs above are on that CD. When we heard it for the first time, we couldn't help but think of Rachel and her dad issues. Poe recorded Haunted by interspersing clips of her late father talking into a tape recorder - to her and her family. Very emotional stuff and you'll probably see some of these songs reappear as Rachel's down the road. Haunted could be Rachel's solo album

Rockstar Baby - Chapter 18
Ahhhh Nick's solo album is born! So are the soundtracks as we know them. Pretty much every chapter from 18 on has had a CD associated with it. Sometimes we skip a chapter because very often the material that we think will only be one chapter gets split into two. You'd think that Chapter 18 would be all sad stuff, because that's the 9/11 chapter but we actually wrote the bulk of that chapter around the real 9/11 (writing is a good way to process life events!).

Oreos for Breakfast - Chapter 19
Chapter 19 is where the trouble begins there are a lot of good, bitter breakup songs on here. Ciao might be my favorite. Very obscure track featuring one of our other favorite singers, Jarvis Cocker of Pulp (*pause of a moment of silence* Seriously great music here, folks pick up "Different Class" by Pulp and prepare to be blown away!)

Oreos for Breakfast - Chapter 21
This is a very mellow CD. "Hymn to Her" is probably one of the most poignant songs I've ever heard. I just love it it's beautiful.

Oreos for Breakfast - Chapter 24
We had to start using JC's solo material, didn't we? And Mona Lisa's and Madhatters wow, there's a classic Elton John song that was resurrected single-handedly by Cameron Crowe! And the last track by Ani is just so great. Doesn't really fit here, but might factor in later
