The Story So Far...
Sudden Silence formed in 1994 when longtime friends James Packard (bass) and Rachel Connor (guitar/vocals) met up with fellow Columbia student Darien Green (drums) at a poetry reading in the East Village (okay, maybe it was a frat party... who remembers!). After months of playing college parties and small bars in NYC, they happened upon Jeremy Nolan playing with his Minneapolis-based band at the now infamous 'Jabberjaw' in NYC. With a little coaxing, Jeremy moved to NYC later that year.
In 1997 the band signed with EMI America and beganrecording their first CD - "Crush" - and in 1998 the first single from that album ("Long Island") climbed as high as #35 on the US and Canadian charts. After a brief hiatus, the band reformed in late 2000 to write and record their follow up CD - "Pretend to be Nice" - which was released in March 2001.
The second single from that album - "Come On" - proved to be a pop hit thanks to a fun and lighthearted video by award winning photographer (and friend of the band) Em Evesham. The video quickly became a staple of MTV's Total Request Live over the summer of 2001 and pushed the album to be certified Gold by the RIAA in September 2001. The third single from the album, also entitled "Pretend to be Nice" will be released in October 2001 with a video directed by another accliamed photographer and director, Matthew Rolston.
